How to play Joking Hazard
Party games rely on simple rules and mechanics to make for a fun experience for everyone involved. Joking Hazard can be taught in a matter of minutes, and even watching one round will be enough for a new player to jump in.
game settings
Before the game begins, shuffle the deck and deal seven cards to each player. There can be up to ten players, but the best games are played with up to 7 people.
Once everyone has received their cards, select one of the players to be the first judge. You can decide by voting, randomly, or if all else fails, choose the owner of the game.
How to play:
The judge begins the game by drawing the top card from the draw deck and placing it face up on the table. The type of card they have drawn determines how the round will be played:
- If a card with a black edge is drawn, it is a regular round. The judge adds a card from his hand to each side of the drawn card to create the first two panels of the comic. Players are tasked with adding the finisher using one of their cards.
- If a card with a red border is drawn, it’s a bonus round! Players will now have to match two cards to create a scenario where the drawn card is the finisher. In bonus rounds, everyone can discard unwanted cards and draw the same number from the draw pile.
Once everyone has submitted their cards, the judge should either shuffle the answers from the regular round or randomize the positions of the bonus round sets so there is no favoritism in the decision. Bonus cards must not be shuffled or shuffled!
Now the judge turns over each card and reads the comic aloud. They must choose their favorite, and the winning player takes the cards they have laid down and places them face up in front of them for scoring purposes. The player to the left of the judge becomes the judge for the next round, and everyone draws until they have seven cards again.
Winning in a regular round gives you one point, but the bonus round is worth twice as much! The game progresses until one player has accumulated three points, but there is nothing to stop you from setting a higher condition or playing until your time runs out.
Your first Joking Hazard game
It might take you a few rounds to get used to the way humor works in Joking Hazard, but that’s fine! If your answer was not declared a winner, you will remain anonymous, so there is no shame in not being able to create a funny comic every time.
The one thing you’re not supposed to do during a round is hint at what your card is before the judge has delivered his verdict. After that, feel free to point it out and discuss your favorite answers with the group.
Pros and cons
Pros:
- true to the comics
- easy to learn
joking Hazard is fun adult party game made by the creators of well known Cyanide & Happiness webcomics and YouTube parodies. For those who enjoy dark humor and creating ridiculous comics, this game will be a lot of fun. Check out the full Joking Hazard card game review below.

- 360-panel cards (including 10 cards to add your own words) match..
This social card game can be played by 3 to 10 people but the best games are played with 4 to 7 players. Each round has an active judge who sets up two comic panels for other players to end up with the funniest finisher. Once all players have sent a card from their hand, the judge will read them in random order and decide the winner.
Joking Hazard has many similarities to Cards Against Humanity however it takes the formula and improves upon it by adding the visual element as well as more control over how stages are created.

The card artwork stays true to the original content: a black border on a white background with brightly colored stick figure characters and scenes. I highly recommend reading some Cyanide & Happiness webcomics to get a better idea of what the cards will look like.
For a game about constantly drawing, shuffling, and tossing cards in a less careful manner, I expected cards that were firmer in the hand. The ones provided feel flimsy and I am concerned about their durability, but as long as they are handled with care this problem should not arise.
